Morris Beard, a 30 year IT professional, graduated from an electronics engineering technology school, a self-described tinkerer and lifelong geek built his company Morris AV in
August 2005.
Having returned from a long weekend, he realized that someone made off with their outdoor rock speakers. This event set Morris in action to consider a solution. How can I hide the speakers so this will never happen again?
His first thought was to hide them in the earth, or chain them down. Then he arrived at hiding them below ground, like there’s nothing there. The first prototype was a cement tube from the hardware store, people would use it to form concrete. He got some pointers from a friend that had a body shop and instructed him how to make the enclosure. He explored other options in fiberglass too.
Morris brought on a partner, David Piehl Jr., that had a good handle on the mechanical aspects of the system, that was not only a positive influence on constantly improving his system, but also believed in it so much, that he became an investor.
Having filed a patent in 2009 and receiving the patent in 2011 for a retractable speaker system, with no current challenges in the U.S. is key. Building your brand to be well respected goes far into the defense of your band and our brand will be exceptional. For example Morris says “If I mention MP3 player, you’re not so impressed, but if I say iPod then you get it.” The markets, besides online sales, we’ll be approaching and partnering with are dealers for pool sales and installation, outdoor theaters, landscaping/patios/fire pits, geared for people that love to spend time outdoors and just relax. Other future markets include, luxury: boats, cars, hotels, corporate boardrooms and trade shows.
Fast forward to today, where we had lots of years of R & D, working in the harshest conditions of a Minnesota winter. Building a retractable speaker system is not easy, challenges included nature in general, water and finding the right parts and fabricators that can ensure the longevity of his speaker system.
Following the trend of people spending more quality time in their homes, due to these Covid-19 times, people are investing big-time in the remodeling and renovation of their homes, specifically with more elaborate landscaping, enhancing their pools, patios and fire pits. The technology roadmap looking forward in the next five years includes building amplifiers, moving into AV products for Home and the Corporate world, which may include, roadshows, video products, projectors, screens, automation & lighting, hence the name Morris AV.
